A well developed scholarly literature on Socialist Realism in the written arts has produced a generally accepted common wisdom. Knowledge about Socialist Realism in the visual arts is much less developed. The purpose of this roundtable is to examine Socialist Realism in aspects of cinema that are specific to cinema: sound, touch/faktura, editing, and camera work. The goal is to begin to specify the ways that Socialist Realism was materialized in films.
